Color Sidekick coming?
February 27, 2003 | Leave a Comment
I’m a T-Mobile subscriber and have thought about getting a Sidekick from Danger. However, my Pocket PC Phone edition does what the sidekick can for the most part. But once the device goes color, maybe it will have a stronger CPU and more RAM behind it. If that is the case, it would be awesome for running Flash and making small Flash clients that talk to Web Services. Danger meet Macromedia, Macromedia meet Danger.

Ericsson brewing its own IM
February 26, 2003 | Leave a Comment
Ericsson is saying that they are testing a new IM system that they created. This rasises two questions. Is it network dependant, meaning can it run on GSM and CDMA networks? And most importantly WHY? Why invest time re-developing the wheel? If Ericsson really wants its own branded IM client (because the back-end system doesn’t matter), then why not build a Jabber client that works on the phone platforms. I am waiting for the consolidation to start happening in the IM market and Jabber seems to be the best bet for us consumers and enterprises. Plus with Jabber, we as developers can write Flash clients to work on the multitude of devices that are going to embed the Flash player.

Flash sites can still be standards compliant.
February 20, 2003 | Leave a Comment
Recently, I have been experimenting with ways to make a site optimized for Search Engines. In doing so I am discovering the best way of working with any Flash content is to apply to strict XHTML standards from the W3C. Obviously most of the content is in markup language and the nav and other graphic blandishment is in Flash. It takes some planning and a lot of dicing, but it works. My solution so far uses strict XHTML, using the standards compliant way of embedding Flash technique found here, and utilizing the localConnection class to have the multiple Flash movies talk to one another. A bit of a pain but it works (on all modern browsers too).

Mitel announces a new product that hopefully will increase efficiency and organization in the enterprise. The new product is your basic office phone, but with a cradle built in for a Pocket PC. The Pocket PC acts as a user ID so you can be located at any phone. Electronic notes can be taken during a conversation and immediately sync’d to a desktop machine. Voice of IP comes into play. There are many more uses. Check it out here.

During these rather dismal financial times for tech, there is good news today coming from an analyst on Quicken’s site about who other than, Macromedia. Interesting quick thoughts on the company found here.
