Just received this posting about a job opening in Charlotte for a Mobile application developer. Sorry, I know these are not so much Flash or development issue related, but I might as well keep passing them on as I receive them.

Macromedia has posted more than one engineering position opening on the job boards. If you know C++ or Java and want to live in San Francisco, this would be a good opporuntity. Flash Lite is starting to pick up some traction and hopefully we’ll see it embedded into many handsets before long. Eventually we should be able to see Flash Cast content as well. I would like working on this product at least, but I’m not interested in moving back to SF. It says no telecommuting either. $#!^!

I have a job agent at Dice.com for the mobile market. Received a rather large group of mobile oriented job opps today. That’s a good sign of some ROI in the market I hope.

This article over at The Feature is one of those every day articles that tries to speculate as to which technology will bust out as being the dominant development tool for mobile phones. It pits Java vs. BREW. Which I don’t see as an apples to apples comparison, but OK. More importantly, why stop there. I wish the article would have mentioned something about Microsoft’s .NET Compact Framework, and of course about Flash Lite. I imagine .NET got left out because of its currently small market share. And Flash Lite is just beginning to make it onto some handsets. Its just too early to say and I won’t speculate at this point in time. I will say that so far, my experience has been that Flash Lite beats out Java in the author once/run anywhere promise and .NET is the easiest to develop for. J2ME is making strides and is moving into a second evolution with MIDP 2.0, so we’ll see. All of these technologies are growing up some, so why speculate at this point. I would hate to be a phone manufacturer or carrier and have to decide one way or another.

Ran across this older article over at SymbianOne where they interview Anup about Flash Lite 1.1. Good developer tidbits in here about the comparisons between Flash 6 player for Pocket PC and Flash Lite 1.1. It does mention SVG-Tiny briefly. I’ll have more on that later. I think introducing SVGT into the Flash player gives developers a couple of good development opportunities.

Bill Perry links to a video clip interview of Anup Muraka, VP of Marketing for Flash on mobile devices. The interview is done by a wireless watch site in Japan. Most of the interview centers around the Flash Lite player and the deals Macromedia have reached with carriers in Japan to distribute Flash Lite. Japan just gets the whole connected phone thing more than the rest of the world. Or at least they use it more currently. Mobile technology seems to first start in Japan and then move into Europe and eventually to the US, so maybe in a couple of years we will see Flash Lite content on phones here. Who is the first US carrier going to be to deploy Flash Cast?
