My Notes

Wax Trax was a very big deal to my developing mind. I looked forward to receiving the paper catalog in the mail. I scoured it looking for new bands. I immersed myself in the industrial sounds the record label introduced from Europe and the US. This roast was done in celebration of Front 242’s 40th anniversary. The back of the bag says it all:Throughout the 1980s & 1990s WAX TRAX! Records cultivated underground music & culture through its Chicago storefront & independent label.Emerging artists such as Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Cramps, New Order, & others first became available in the Midwest via the WAX TRAX! shop at 2449 N. Lincoln Ave. In addition to the retail store, the WAX TRAX! imprint was responsible for initially releasing electronic pioneers such as Ministry, Front 242, Revolting Cocks, KMFDM, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Underworld, The KLF, Front Line Assembly & more. The label has largely been credited for creating the industrial genre here in the USA.On Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for Wax Trax and Dark Matter coffee.
