Dear Songtradr (aka Bandcamp)
Dear Songtradr,

I know it has only been recently that you purchased Bandcamp, but I wanted to offer my services. See, I’m a big fan of music. I’m a big fan of fringe music. I did not grow up listening to the popular music of the day. As a young man growing up in the Midwest, I listened to what people called Alternative. This meant Punk, Post Punk, Industrial, etc… My friends and I would trade mix tapes and dream of moving to a large city like New York or London simply for the music scenes, as we perceived them.

Bandcamp is one of the few music-related destinations on the internet that supports the modern-day versions of Alternative. I want that to continue. I would work very hard for that to continue.

I trust you have the Bandcamp community’s best interest at heart. I can even understand the connection to what Songtradr already does for licensing music. This is great. Artists should be excited if their aim is to extend their audience through commercial means. Some artists may not want that, so hopefully they can opt-out.

Needless to say, I am excited to see Bandcamp grow and prosper. If you plan on rebranding, I hope people get excited about Songtradr Friday. You can make that happen with the wonderful people already working on Bandcamp. But should you need additional help to introduce new features and secure the functionality already there, count me in. I understand the tech stack already and could hit the ground running.

So if you read this, and need another engineer to supplement the already marvelous staff, or someone to run the whole thing, please keep me in mind. I would love to be involved in any way you may need.

Listening,
Mike
